There are other costs as well:
- editing
- graphics and photos
- graphic design
A simple business plan is essential. After publication, the real work of sales and promotion begins. You will need to let the public know that your book is available, and you will need to convince people to buy it. That is why you need a clear idea of how you will sell the book.

With self-publishing and print-on-demand, it should cost _much_ less -- probably about $600 for a 200-page paperback if no new software has to be purchased and if the author formats the interior.
I recommend planning on having about another $500 set aside in case proofs are needed for multiple revisions, and to pay for sending out review copies and press releases.
